I have registered for my second Exchange mailbox (I let the first one expire.) About a month later I had some trouble setting it back up after re-formatting my PC. This trouble was by my own doing.
I spent at least an hour on the phone with a live technician, where we tried several processes to get it setup. We eventually set up the Exchange mailbox into Outlook Manually.
I am no slouch technically, so this also ended up being a real challenge for the technician as well. It did not seem that he had ever encountered these errors before. Regardless, he was friendly, and found out what he needed to resolve the problem.
I applaud 1&1 for providing documentation for this technician to solve such remote problems. He was struggling a little, but it all turned out okay in the end.
Normally when I call support for anything, I am passed on to level II, then level II before anything can be accomplished. This can usually take hours of repeating myself over and over.
I don't know about their web hosting, but their Exchange hosting is top notch!

They advertise about their near 100% uptime - which surprises me when last year one of their servers died and left some sites offline for 24 hours! Apparently their backup was faulty, hence the delay.
They send you spam too! it infuriates me! There is no way to opt out either. You get lots of junk mail asking you to upgrade your service, or buy this feature or that service - shame on them.
The price is OK.
The web-mail interface doesn't support Safari properly.
I have been with them for over a year. I have had 24 hours of outage.
